Putellas, Oshoala and Martens headline European champion FC Barcelona's squad for WICC

The reigning queens of European soccer will arrive in the United States in August, and they will be bringing a star-studded squad in search of one more trophy to add to the collection.
Dutch star Lieke Martens, Nigerian sensation Asisat Oshoala and Spanish standouts Alexia Putellas and Jenni Hermoso headline the squad FC Barcelona will bring to the Women’s ICC Tournament in Portland.
The Catalan club is returning to action after a trophy-filled 2020-2021 season which saw the team complete the treble as Spanish champions, winners of Copa De La Reina and holders of the UEFA Champions League title.
Leading the squad is Spanish striker Jenni Hermoso, who led the Primera Division in scoring with a whopping 31 goals along with 14 assists, and also tied for the lead in Champions League goals with six. Alexia Putellas and Asisat Oshoala were tied for third in the league in goals with 18 apiece.
Primera Division assist-leader Carolina Graham Hansen will also be with Barcelona at the Women’s ICC Tournament, having collected 19 assists in league play last season.
Lieke Martens is another top attacking threat for Barcelona, having recorded 15 goals and 10 assist in Primera Division play to go with five goals during Barcelona’s run to the Champions League title.
Though Barcelona is known for its high-flying attack, the Spanish champions also boast one of the best defenses in Europe, led by Spanish central defender Mapi Leon.
Patri Guijarro is a versatile weapon capable of starring in central midfield or even in central defense, as she did in the Champions League final win against Chelsea.
A pair of long-serving veterans anchor the fullback positions, with Marta Torrejon holding down the right back position as one of the team’s most experienced and dependable players. Melanie Serrano has spent 14 seasons with the club and serves as the starter at left back.
Spanish standout Sandra Paños anchors the goalkeeper position, and has established herself as one of the best in the world.
