FC Bayern
Club History
When it comes to trophy cabinets in Germany, nobody comes close to Bayern. With 30 league titles and 20 national cups, they are head and shoulders above the rest. They’ve been crowned Bundesliga champions each year since 2013, winning two European trebles in that time as well.
They are also Germany’s most successful club in Europe, having won the European Cup/UEFA Champions League on six occasions, including three in a row between 1974 and 1976 during the ‘Golden Era’ when a side containing Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller and Sepp Maier became the uncontested kings of the continent.
Bayern are synonymous with legends of German football. As well as the aforementioned trio, Philipp Lahm, Lothar Matthäus, Oliver Kahn and Paul Breitner have all enjoyed success in Bavaria.
ICC History
The German giants are no strangers to the ICC, having played in four consecutive editions (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) with their best result being fifth place in 2019.
2016 was their first participation in the ICC, which saw the club finish in 6th place with 4 total points. That year they faced off against Italian clubs AC Milan and Inter, finishing the tournament with a 1-0 defeat against Real Madrid at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The following year, FC Bayern traveled to Asia to play two matches in China and two matches in Singapore. In China, they lost to Arsenal and AC Milan, while defeating Chelsea and falling to Inter in Singapore.
In 2018, FC Bayern battled with Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and Manchester City. They finished the tournament with one win and two losses.
2019 was the club’s best ICC performance, as they finished fifth in the table after defeating Real Madrid and AC Milan. Their only loss came against Arsenal, thanks to an 88’ goal from the English club.

The stadium cost nearly 350M Euros to construct, and played host to the 2006 FIFA World Cup and 2012 UEFA Champions League final.
Manager - Hans-Dieter "Hansi" Flick
A former FC Bayern midfielder, Hansi Flick joined the club as an assistant coach in the summer of 2019 before being named manager in November of 2019.
In his first year in charge, Flick led the club to five trophies, which included a European Treble. He was named UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year for the 2019-2020 season.
Under Flick’s management, FC Bayern continue to look like the team to beat in Europe.
Key Players
Robert Lewandowski
One of the deadliest marksmen of the modern era, the prolific Pole has consistently produced stunning numbers since arriving at Bayern in 2014.
A five-time winner of the Bundesliga scoring title, Lewandowski is the quickest player in history to reach 100 German top-flight goals. He is also the all-time leading non-German scorer in league history.
Quick, powerful and armed with a dead-eye shot, Lewandowski is the complete striker and has been pivotal to Bayern’s success in recent years.
Manuel Neuer
Widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history, Manuel Neuer has won it all for club and country.
Since joining FC Bayern in 2011, Neuer has racked up an astonishing 23 trophies with the club. He also helped lead Germany to victory at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
He is on track to break the Bundesliga all-time record for clean sheets during the 2020-2021 season.
Alphonso Davies
The 20-year-old Canadian phenom joined FC Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps in the summer of 2018 for $22M, a then-record transfer fee for an MLS player.
Davies earned his first Bundesliga start early in the 2019-2020 season and never looked back. He became a regular in Hansi Flick’s lineup and quickly earned a reputation as the best left back in the world.
Davies went on to earn the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Year award and was a vital part of the club’s treble-winning season.
In November, 2020, CIES Football Observatory named Davies the ninth-most valuable footballer on the planet, with a transfer value of 133.5M Euros.
