Saturday Night Live vet Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses) will host the 2019 International Champions Cup launch event.
Sudeikis is well known amongst soccer fans for his beloved internet character, Coach Ted Lasso, a remarkably bad American “football” coach hired to manage the Tottenham Hotspurs.
“Engaging with the soccer community has been an unexpected thrill in my career,” said Sudeikis. “There is a passion to the sport that is genuine and I am thrilled to play a small part of bringing the best clubs in the world to North America and Asia.”
In its seventh year, the ICC is the premier summer international club tournament and the start of the soccer season. It is the first chance for clubs to debut new players, new managers, new kits and for soccer fans to see their heroes back on the pitch.
Over 4.8 million fans have attended ICC matches since its inception and more than 150 million people watch the tournament worldwide. Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suárez, Mohamed Salah, Gareth Bale, Luka Modrić, Harry Kane, Neymar and so many other stars have participated in the ICC.
The three-day launch event, held in the heart of SoHo, will be unlike anything the soccer world has seen.
New York-based contemporary artist Daniel Arsham and his firm Snarkitecture have designed an experiential retail pop-up using art created from historic ICC memorabilia. Arsham will also release a capsule collection of exclusive ICC merchandise on day two and three of the event.
