FC Bayern 3-1 Paris Saint-Germain

Gianluigi Buffon made his first appearance for Paris Saint-Germain but saw his side defeated by FC Bayern in Austria.

A Timothy Weah goal kicked things off for the Ligue 1 champions, but the Bundesliga champions came back in the second half, with goals from Javi Martínez, Renato Sanches, and 17-year-old Joshua Zirkzee.

It was a bright start from a PSG side whose youth tested the fitness of the more experienced Bayern line-up, including stars such as Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry.

20-year-old Christopher Nkunku was lively for the French side, and his corner landed on the head of Adrien Rabiot to produce the game’s first chance, saved by Sven Ulreich.

At the opposite end Buffon’s first action was a dive at full stretch to paw away an Oliver Meier shot. The 17-year-old didn’t make the best contact with the ball, but the save still needed making.

It was no surprise that the first goal came via the pace of PSG’s front line. Kevin Rimane stepped out to intercept a pass in midfield, quickly playing it through to Weah. The American used his strength and speed to hold off Bayern defender Josip Stanicic before slotting past Ulreich.

Rimane was called upon at the other end of the pitch to clear a Sandro Wagner shot off the line, preserving his side’s lead with Bayern enjoying a revival at the beginning of the second half.

The equaliser eventually came via the head of Martínez at a Robben corner, and the Bundesliga champions went on to take the lead shortly after Buffon departed.

Remy Descamps replaced the 40-year-old between the posts and his first task was to retrieve the ball from the back of the net as Sanches sneaked a free-kick inside the near post. Zirkzee’s close-range finish, following good work from Serge Gnabry, sealed the win.
