Bayern are taking the tour to the United States very serious and head coach Niko Kovac has nominated the best available squad for the games at the ICC. “We’ve got three attractive opponents,” Kovac said.

The 47-year-old will complement his squad with eight further youth players to ensure the senior members get the rest they need. “We’ll take a number of U19 players with us because the reserves are already playing. I don’t want the players to just be playing; they need to be able to train again the next day,” the coach explained.

Hence, the 17 players listed on the club’s official statement did not include the full complement of players that will join Bayern’s squad this summer. Among the young players that could be involved this summer is young US star Chris Richards, who earned a permanent transfer from FC Dallas to Bayern earlier this year.

New signing Lucas Hernández will not be heading Stateside as he continues his rehabilitation programme in Munich following his knee operation. That, however, does not mean that Bayern’s side will not include any new faces. The club nominated both striker Fiete Arp, who starred for Germany at the U-17 FIFA World Cup in India two years ago, and 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Pavard, who joined the club from VfB Stuttgart.

Furthermore, Bayern remain active in the transfer window and there is a good chance the club could present a new star during the tournament.

Meanwhile, Canadian sensation Alphonso Davies will have to skip the ICC this summer. The 18-year-old led Canada at the 2019 Gold Cup this summer and has been given an extensive holiday by the club.

For Kovac, the tournament is an important part of this summer’s preparation. The goal is to use pre-season as best as possible to be “top fit” for the first competitive match of the season in the DFB Pokal against fourth division side Energie Cottbus a club statement read. After all, for Bayern the only thing that counts at the end of the season is titles.
